The Rise and Rise of Michael Rimmer

Finally for the first time ever, the hilarious political satire The Rise And Rise Of Michael Rimmer will be released, digitally restored, on DVD on 25 June 2007 courtesy of Digital Classics DVD.

Starring the legendary comic Peter Cook (That Was The Week That Was, Bedazzled, The Black Adder) in the title role it charts the dangerously ambitious political actions of the titular Michael Rimmer.

The Rise And Rise Of Michael Rimmer was co-written by, and stars, some of the best names in British satirical comedy including John Cleese (Monty Python’s Flying Circus, Fawlty Towers, A Fish Called Wanda), Graham Chapman (Monty Python’s Flying Circus, That Was The Week That Was, The Frost Report) and also features an acting turn from playwright Harold Pinter (The Birthday Party, The Dumb Waiter, Mansfield Park).

Strikingly relevant in the current time of British political and social upheaval, The Rise And Rise Of Michael Rimmer takes a subversive look at the road to political success. Through Rimmer, the film lampoons politicians and the suspiciously ambitious. Rimmer manipulates, cheats and murders his way to the top of his profession and eventually to the head of all government: President of Great Britain. His ‘charisma-heavy’, ‘policy-light’ style of leadership, through relentless opinion polls, referenda and underhand electoral practices, somehow wins the hearts of the nation – at the expense of the country.

Previously unavailable on DVD or video, The Rise And Rise Of Michael Rimmer, is a must for fans of British comedy.
