Dance science researchers from the University of Wolverhampton have pirouetted their way to success after clinching three awards at an international event.

Six University representatives attended the 17th Annual Meeting of the International Association for Dance Medicine & Science, held in Canberra, Australia.

Frances Clarke, a Lecturer from the dance department at the School of Sport, Performing Arts and Leisure, received the President's award for Poster Presentation. Her presentation was about stability during dance movements in two types of jazz shoe

Manuela Angioi, a PhD student, received a Student Award, in recognition of her research on video analysis of contemporary dance performances.

And Emily Twitchett, also a PhD student, was awarded the Poster Design Award, for her work, which portrayed physical demands of ballet performances.

The University had further success, as PhD student Jeff Russell headed up the Reviewer’s Panel, which decides the various awards offered to participants for the quality of poster presentations and content, and Dr Matt Wyon was appointed to the Board of IADMS as well as presenting, and Professor Yiannis Koutedakis chaired a number of lectures and movement sessions at the event.

Professor Koutedakis said: “Our University is one of the leading institutions in dance medicine, and particularly dance science, in Europe and we are delighted with our success at this event, which is the most prestigious meeting in the field.”
